This time of year in Palm Springs is perfect for getting outside and exploring all the beauty the desert has to offer! The waterfall at the end of this trail loop is seasonal, so it flows from approximately February through May. Which coincides with what is usually beautiful weather in the desert, so make sure to take advantage of this hike soon!
This trail is about 1.8 miles round trip, with the difficulty being strenuous/moderate. The elevation gain is 350 feet, with steep and rocky areas that also have many rock steps to climb. There is little to no shade and no restrooms along the hike. For most, it takes an average of about 53 minutes to complete.
Located at the entrance of the canyon is the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center which offers educational and cultural exhibits. There is also a display of artifacts, an observation deck, and a theater room for viewing The Legend of Tahquitz video.
Admission onto the trail is $15 for adults, and $7 for children ages 6-12. There are no dogs allowed on the trail. The trail is open from 7:30am to 5pm daily, and the last hike of the day is at 3:30pm. You must be 18 years or older to enter the trail alone, otherwise you will need to be accompanied by an adult. You can also choose to take a Ranger Led Interpretive Hike, which is free with admission, and lasts 2.5 hours. The times of these hikes are offered at 8am, 10am, 12pm, and 2pm daily. All of these details should be taken into consideration before heading out on the trail.
